Wintry weather warmth!

Why I have an old-fashioned gas heater.

Works whether the weather is or not complying power-wise!

My dad said to have a gas stove to cook on so no matter how horrible the weather, you could at least eat.

Just a few months after I bought my house in Kalamazoo, MI, we had a freezing rain storm. This was in mid-Oct. The leaves hadn't fallen yet, so we had limbs, branches, and trees down everywhere in town, so power was out in most neighborhoods. I had a gas central furnace, but learned really fast that it had a power igniter and powered blowers. No juice meant no heat! Gawd, it was cold af in that house! Took them about 6 hours to get the power back up.

My roomies and I hunkered down at a coffee house in a neighborhood that had power. We would send expeditions into our 'hood to see if power had been restored. We drank way too much coffee that day! And had to wait a while after power was back on so house would heat up to be somewhat comfortable. We puffed so hard that evening to come down off those caffeine jitters. lol!

Though temps here

never get as cold as western Michigan(saw -17F, with -35F wind chill a few times), I made sure to have a heat source here that did not need electricity to operate!
