More gardening propaganda.
Farm production was diverted to the troops resulting in rationing at home for the regular folk as shown here.

What was intriguing about the covid pandemic was the surge in interest in home gardens without any government encouragement. The shortages in supermarkets of basic items sparked a panic in the populace. This translated into a rabid interest in "grow your own" gardens. It was so prolific that it affected people like me and my farm even now.
Many of the heirloom seed companies I deal with all the time had shortages and made it hard to get the seeds I needed. Even now, it is impossible to get bulk orders of seeds. One company had provided bulk seeds which made planting lettuce varieties really easy. Now, that arm of the company is in hiatus because they are making more money from fulfilling small batch seed orders from the post-pandemic crowd who are still growing gardens.

This Dig for Victory poster is from the University’s Collection of British World War II propaganda posters and was originally intended to encourage Britons to grow their own vegetables over the winter months – in addition to spring and summer. This was part of a necessary drive for increased self sufficiency and sustainability in the face of rationing and food shortages caused by the war.
According to the green-fingered growers at The University of Nottingham’s Sutton Bonington Allotment Society, there’s no reason why you can’t grow your own veg throughout the year – no matter how small your garden.
In this video the Society’s President Saoirse Tracy unearths some useful tips regarding which vegetables are hardy enough to grow when the weather’s cold. This includes a whole host of tasty options from leeks and onions through to garlic and cauliflowers:

The sheer number of posters created is mind-boggling.
